| help on wholesale vs retail |
[28 Dec 2009|01:11am] |
I'm interested in submitting my zines to distros, but Ive never done it before and have NO IDEA how pricing works. I see distros talking about wholesale price vs retail price. What's the difference? Which one is higher? Should I insist on consignment? Does that change the price? Ugh, it seems like so much, and I'm not great at numbers. HELP! Anyone who can dumb this process down for me would be a god-send. THANK YOU.

| new zine issue |
[28 Dec 2009|12:40am] |
Hi - I just finished the first issue of my new zine. I'd love some flyers to send out with my orders, and in return I can send you some of mine. Email me at seasonofunknowing[@]gmail.com with your address and I'll send you some. The quicker you can get me the flyers, the better, because I just posted the ad for the zine tonight!
In case you're curious, here's the zine:
It comes with a free mini zine, too: The zine has been in the works a while, and I'm so excited that its finally done!! :-)

| season of unknowing issue one |
[28 Dec 2009|12:35am] |
|
the season of unknowing issue one: every story has to have a beginning first issue of a strange perzine-conglomeration. Prose and fiction, worldly and not-so worldly observations, photos and quotes, love, life, and zines. This issue features 3 zine reviews, a look at the past year, fiction and freeform poetry, rants about the world and community, and more. Includes a free mini zine and other cutesy things that will fit into the envelope. - Just realizing now that I suck at descriptions. The zine is better, I promise.
Paypal and I had a falling out, so no paying that way. I welcome trades, crafty items, and well concealed cash (2.00, to cover copy costs and postage) Letters are a blast, but I'm not posting my address here, so take my email instead and take the initiative. You'll be glad you did, trust me. seasonofunknowing[@]gmail[.]com
If you run a distro or know of one that may be interested, drop me a line and let me know. I've never used one before but I'm thinking of submitting to some

| road trips |
[27 Dec 2009|03:15pm] |
I'm in the starting stages of planning a road trip this summer. I live in New England and have never been off the east coast before, but I have relatives in California, so I want to drive out there. I'm looking for some amazing sights that I can't get out of a guidebook. I don't actually have a route planned yet, so suggest anything: places in your hometown, places you've been before, places you want to go but have never seen. I'd like to see some famous sights too, but I'm really interested in indie and underground places that no one's ever heard of before. Can everyone help me out please??
(I'm really sorry for cross-posting this, I usually hate when people do that but I want to get a wide response base. I've never done anything like this before.)

| new distro!!! |
[26 Dec 2009|10:47am] |
Hey everyone! I used to run Supernova Zine Distro way back in the day when I was in high school. I recently graduated art school and wanted to do something with zines again to keep me creating and supporting other artists.
I recently built a website for my new distro, False Start, and need more submissions! I am focusing on mainly art and literary zines, along with how-to/DIY zines that encourage creativity and alternative ways of living. I am going to be distroing a few perzines, but mostly ones that are either huge favorites of mine or have really awesome design & layouts. Oh, I am also interested in art objects/crafts and music!
So please, if you think you have something that fits the bill, get in touch! My email address is falsestartdistro AT gmail DOT com. Please spread the link around & visit the people I've linked! Hope to see you in February!

| black light diner distro, december 2009 update |
[20 Dec 2009|08:45pm] |
Hello everyone! Just a little update about the new zines available at Black Light Diner Distro!

HELLO ALABAMA: A ONE-SHOT DISASTER (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Courtney's (Muse) anti-love letter to Alabama was written after she packed up and moved from North Carolina to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to attend library science school. The move came with an unexpected downside in the racist and conservative attitudes of some of her classmates. While certainly not indicting all Alabamans, Courtney describes the self-silencing she must go through to be safe in her new location, from being forced to tear a pro-choice sticker off her car to having to check her political ideals at the door in order to have at least a few friends. There's also a piece about the underfunded and underutilized recycling program in Tuscaloosa, and how its mismanagement by clueless city officials has had devastating consequences for the working-class community who must live next to the plant. I've never moved to a drastically different geographical location (yet), but as someone who grew up in a more conservative area the themes of alienation rang true, and I think this would be a great zine for anyone who feels out of step with their surroundings, whether they're a native or a newcomer.
( more )
Also, I'm really on the lookout for some new zines to carry, in particular personal comics. If you have something you think I'd be interested in, drop me an email or send it to me!
Thanks for reading, Erica

Sorry I've been absent from this particular community for so long, but I'm definitely still involved with zines and...
I've decided to take that leap and start a distro! I've been spending many hours planning, writing, and trying my darndest to make a decent website without many design skills. Here's the description from the website:
Mad Hatter Distro, named for Mab’s favorite character in the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, is a new distro in Pennsylvania that focuses on well-written perzines, litzines, mini zines, and fanzines, and aims to help new zinesters bring their writing to the world.
The site is up and running now, though it's a bit sparse at the moment and the catalog is empty. You'll find the full submission guidelines, payment information, and the distro's blog there.
The catalog will be updated periodically so you can preview what zines will be available, and I will begin accepting orders March 1st.
Visit: http://madhatterdistro.weebly.com.
You can also read my distro thoughts and see pictures of my new "zine space" (I dedicated an entire cabinet to zines today) on my zine blog: http://ratbratzine.wordpress.com.

| Volthair one&two package! woop woop |
[18 Dec 2009|01:19am] |
Woah, I'm so excited. I finally got around to doing this. Making copies and getting the packaging together. Also, I wanted to make some nice prints as a holiday gift. Whew.. and here it is, ta da!
This Includes: Volthair #1: My intentions are Good Volthair #2: The Crane Zine One free print! 6 USD
Descriptions:
Volthair #1: My Intentions are Good: This first zine is about my first year of college, some of my tangent past, getting over my first boy attachment, meeting new and old souls, and searching for the sake of searching. Most of it's about trying. A dirty bathroom wall once said "my intentions are good." These are seamless intentions within us are just tumbling life's events, that's all. 1/4 size, 50 Pages
Volthair #2:The Zine Crane is about the hot Austin summer of 2008 to the 2009 cold spring. It is about the young throws of unlikely love, the life of a pbs intern, a long road trip away from Austin, happenings, more happenings, feelings of death, the age of seventeen and the search for quality. It is furthermore, what are attempts to remember details and stories. Whenever anything seems disorienting, please know these are my hands folding and unfolding a crane. I am trying to remember my history and my experiences, fold by fold. 1/4 size, 48 pages
Email me if you're interested at volthair at gmail dot com! You can also order them on my website!
cross posted- my apologies
